As the sketches for the new Audi Quattro concept coupe are released, the world of car-lovers holds it breath: this looks like a good one. Scratch that: a fantastic one.
This new model is, as yet, unnamed, and the details so far are sketchy. We’ll know more when it is premiered next month at the Frankfurt motor show. But it appears to be modelled on the Audi Quattro concept car which was launched in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show. It will have four bucket seats and a simple dashboard, with relatively few switches.
It will also have a longer wheelbase and wider tracks, while maintaining its slim, sleek shillouhette. But don’t be fooled for a second: this baby will have power. Audi will likely be wanting to make the new Quattro their most powerful to date. It will probably have an updated version of the twin-turbo V8 engine, designed along the A6/A7 underpinnings. Bearing all of this in mind, it could have up to a 650bhp.
Obviously that suff is weighty, so Audi are making various weight-saving measures for the Quattro. These are expected to include a carbonfibre body and forged alloys.
All in all, the Quattro looks set to be an impressive car all-round. We’re reserving our final judgement until we see it in its full glory at Frankfurt, but let’s just say we’re hoping for a front-row seat.
