Words: Violet

The new Audi will, in all likelihood, never be driven by anyone. Why? Because it’s a prototype, designed to show off some swanks new features and technologies at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
But that doesn’t make it any less lovely. Nanuk means polar bear in Inuit, and this car certainly has an icy power. It’s a sports car with a diesel engine and does 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds (much faster than a real polar bear, then.) It has a 5.0-litre V10 diesel engine that develops about 540bhp, and drive is to all four wheels. The Nanuk is, needless to say, made all the more desirable by the fact that we’ll never get to drive it.
But fear not – there are elements of the Nanuk which will pass through to Audi in general. The sculptural design, for example, is likely to be seen in the next generation R8, while the front grille is also a shoo-in for future models.
So, don’t pin your hopes on the Nanuk, but remember its face. Its one you’re likely to see in various forms a lot over the next year.
