The launch of a new Aston Martin is always worth getting excited about. And this new soft-top Vanquish Volante number is no exception. With a grace which belies its awesome power, it’s a hallmark car.
Aston Martin was founded a century ago this year. And in that 100 years, their brand has become synonymous with quality, style and a dash of derring-do. No doubt this has something to do with the famous alliance between James Bond and the Aston Marton: he drives one in six films. In fact, the current real-life Bond, Daniel Craig, drives one too – as well as Jason Statham, Hugh Grant and another Bond, Pierce Brosnan. This new model, the Vanquish Volante, is a prime example of what keeps this company at the top of their game. Firstly: just look at it. It’s a beauty of a car. Stylish, compact, slick. It’s totally streamlined but bold enough to make an impact. Of course, it also comes with all the Aston Martin vroom that we have come to expect. The body is unprecedentedly stiff, made from carbon which keeps the power even while ensuring smooth cornering. There’s also the Aston Martin Positive Torque Control, for maximum road-holding – even at speeds of up to 183 miles per hour. This baby can go from nought to 62 in just over four seconds.
Now, no one’s pretending it’s cheap. In fact, starting at £199,995, it’s just below the average house price for the UK. But if you’ve got that clanging around in your bank vault, there could be no better way to spend it. From the triple-layer roof, which folds down in 14 seconds flat, to the impecable leather and chrome, this car is every inch a star.
