Last night Los Angeles played host to what might just be the most dynamic car release to date. In front of an audience boasting the likes of Miranda Kirr, Simon Cowell and Kelly Osbourne, the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé burst into action in what looked like a car-chase scene taken straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster.
As Design Director Ian Callum was introducing the car, his words were suddenly overshadowed by the sound of sirens, helicopters and screeching tyres coming from around the venue. Within seconds, the audience was plunged into darkness.
Lights from police helicopters flashed around the room until there was a short calmness. Then suddenly, at the back of the venue, the silhouette of the white Coupé appeared. With the engine roaring, the wheels spinning, the F-TYPE came to life, accelerating down the length of the building, towards the engrossed audience. The crowd was left gasping as the car, without slowing down, disappeared underneath them. Talk about making an entrance.
The F-TYPE R is powered by Jaguar’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine and can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 186mph. A 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine powers the F-TYPE S and the F-TYPE, giving 0-60mph in 4.8/5.1 seconds, with top speeds of 171/161mph respectively.
Jaguar’s expertise in aluminium technology has enabled the design vision for the F-TYPE Coupé to be delivered in a lightweight yet extremely strong body shell. The body side is made from a single piece aluminium pressing. Visual appeal is fundamental to Jaguar and, as such the F-TYPE Coupé is immediately recognisable, building on the design of the stunning C-X16 concept sports Coupé and the F-TYPE Convertible – winner of the 2013 ‘World Car Design of the Year’ award.
