Words: Violet
Ever wanted to feel like a super hero, batman maybe? Well maybe dreams really do come true, as Honda has unveiled a radical new scooter-motorcycle, the NM4 Vultus and one can’t help but feel that the young team of designers must have been a little bit influenced by the Bat-mobile! The Vultus, which means ‘face’ in Latin has an angular, intimidating front, giving a real superhero feel.
The NM4 Vultus boasts LED lights, future-ready shock absorbers and takes it’s inspiration from the much larger Honda DN 07. With a twin-cylinder 745cc engine, Honda claims that the NM4 Vultus’ engine will have strong low and mid-range power and torque for a smooth acceleration.
Honda designed the NM4 Vultus with long journeys in mind, so it features an ergonomic riding position and is fitted with an innovative rider backrest which can also transform into a pillion seat. The “Front Massive Styling” of this 745cc parallel-twin-powered Vultus places the rider to the rear, putting your back against what may be the pillion seat flipped up. The rider steers through latter-day George Roeder pullback bars—allowing the front of the machine to become an open-mouthed, semi-streamlined box containing the engine, fuel, and parcel storage.
The engine on the Honda NM4 is mated to a dual clutch transmission, similar to what we have seen in the VFR1200, there is the ease of twist and go along with a manual mode. Matching the engine’s strength is a rigid steel frame, 43mm telescopic forks, rear monoshock with Pro-Link, large diameter disc brakes, 18 inch front and 17 inch rear aluminium wheels – with an impressive, 200-section rear tyre – for street-bike levels of handling, feedback and stability.
The new motorcycle is propelled by a 745cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 8-valve, SOHC parallel 2-cylinder engine which generates a maximum power of 40.3kW at 6,250rpm and 68Nm of torque at 4,750rpm. The engine’s power is kept in leash by a standard Dual Clutch Transmission system. If futuristic styling is your thing then this might just be the bike for you, unfortunately Honda have yet to reveal a price or release date, so you’ll have to stay tuned.
