The end of September sees the third edition of WATCHES & WONDERS in Hong Kong, an event fast establishing its stamp within the realms of horology, set up in recognition of an entire region and its thousands of collectors, all admirers of intricate mechanisms and passionate about exquisitely crafted timepieces.
Dedicated to the culture, expertise and heritage of fine watchmaking, the event attracts the most reputed names of the industry: IWC, Cartier, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin, Van Cleef, Richard Mille and Mont Blanc, amongst others.
WATCHES & WONDERS provides these fabled names with a platform from which to showcase their latest iterations, which, after years in the planning and making, are eagerly awaited by the prying press.
One such piece comes from the luxury Swiss manufacturers IWC, who are providing an exclusive preview of an elegant new timepiece, the Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher – the first from IWC to offer a single push-button chronograph.
Available in white or red gold this new complication, keeps with tradition, oozing style and distinctive elegance, while featuring push-buttons at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock. This model sets itself apart with an ingenious single push-button stop-watch that measures time for up to 60 minutes, integrated in the crown and at a glance virtually invisible.
Despite this additional function, the Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher remains a simple timepiece and divulges its functionality only when we look more closely. Understatement like this is part of the family tradition: watches have stood for discreet design and classic lines for as long as anyone can remember.
Prices are £19,950 for the white gold model and £18,850 for the red gold model.
