The 911 RS is not a new thing. Indeed, the first ever Porsche RS was unveiled in 1973 in the form of the ‘ducktail’ Carrera RS. A legendary car now, she was fast, raw and uncompromising. She was everything a 911 should have been. Now though, there’s a new model and it adopts many aspects of the original. It’s a stripped-back racing machine for the road and it’s got potential to be one of the finest iterations for decades. It’s the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The GT3 RS is the most hardcore 911 ever. Boasting the brand-new 493bhp, 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine, it’s the most powerful non-turbo 911 yet, going from 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds – an impressive feat, to say the least. If the standard GT3 is anything to go by, the RS will scream all the way up to 9,000rpm too, offering one of the greatest engine notes of any production car on the road.

The extremities of the GT3 RS go beyond just the engine though. The exterior styling really sets it apart from the standard car, with a wide body, new front splitter, side skirts, wheelarch air vents and enormous fixed rear wing. Carbon fibre is of course utilised extensively too, with the bonnet and roof made of the uber-lightweight material.

The interior is race car-esque, featuring bucket seats borrowed from the 918 Spyder, a simple buttonless alcantara steering wheel, fabric door handles and a hardcore fixed roll cage. The same, lightning quick 7-speed PDK gearbox remains, delivering seamless shifts, although some owners may not be pleased that a manual option isn’t available (yet again). The performance of the RS is set to be off the charts though, and we here at TGJ can’t wait to see it in action.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS will cost from £131,296. For more information, click here.
