The pick: how to be the most stylish man in the room this spring

Words: Hamish Roy

One of the most versatile pieces in a man’s wardrobe, the bomber has been a popular style since the 1950s. In spite of the garments utilitarian history, however, not all bombers are created equal. The ‘Ferris’ bomber, part of Louis Wong’s capsule collection for laid-back Parisian powerhouse, A.P.C., might just be the finest example currently on the market.

Cut from premium Italian calfskin suede, this jacket has a wonderfully soft nap – and not a hint of the stiffness sometimes found in garments made from lesser cuts of leather. The tan hue keeps it classic, meaning that it leans towards the more elegant side of casual wear. Incidentally, the Louis W. for A.P.C. collection is inspired by the sports culture found at English private schools – an aesthetic that has been popularised by film adaptations of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited.

The sandy hue makes this an extremely protean piece, and unlike some suede jackets, it pairs equally well with black or navy trousers. For a casual but elevated weekend look take a leaf out of the Ivy League playbook, donning with a shirt or plain white tee, dark trousers and a pair of chunky loafers.
