If Paul Newman was alive today, his wardrobe would look like this
Words: India Gladstone
No one can deny that Paul Newman was one of the best looking, best dressed, multi-talented gentlemen ever to have graced our screens. He was a gentleman who succeeded in more than one area – not only was he an oscar winning actor and director, but he was also a massive philanthropist; he distributed more money – in relation to his own wealth – than any other American during the 20th century. As well as being ridiculously good looking, he was also a professional race-car driver, a political activist and husband to one of best actresses during that time. While Newman was out there out-achieving every other gentleman in the world, he also happened to have impeccable style. Newman was a gentleman who had casual down to a tee – literally. White T-shirts or shirts, casual chinos and a slightly loose jacket were his go-to and he definitely did it well. So, if he was still with us today, what would his wardrobe look like?
A WHITE T-SHIRT OR SHIRT
Newman was the king of the white t-shirt – a look that you really can’t go wrong with if you’re looking to go casual. White t-shirts go with quite literally everything and Newman always knew how to style it perfectly. In a slightly more formal instance Newman might have worn a white shirt instead.

A PAIR OF CLASSIC CHINOS
Chinos are a staple that every gentleman needs to have in his wardrobe, but be weary – not all chinos are created equal. Make like Newman and wear a pair somewhere between skinny and loose, too long and too short and stick to a classic beige colour – or a dark blue.

THE RIGHT BOMBER JACKET
Bomber jackets are one of those items that can instantly take a look from dull to amazing and something that every gentleman can pull off. Newman favoured slightly over-sized, heavyweight jackets, and the key thing – which he always got right – is to never look like you’re trying too hard.
THE RIGHT TRAINERS
Trainers are a dangerous territory which we see gentlemen getting wrong far too often. Paul Newman wouldn’t be seen dead in a pair of Asics or Nike running trainers – he instead favoured the much cooler low-top, lace-up trainer; Converse are the perfect example.
