How to pack for a city break
Words: Charlie Thomas
We’ve talked about what you need to pack for the summer break, as well as what you need on the beach, but packing for a city break is a whole new challenge. Depending on which part of the world you are jetting off to, inner-city weather can be entirely unpredictable, meaning that the clothes you choose to bring must be expertly selected to avoid wasting space, or worse, getting caught out in the rain. A stress-busting trip abroad is something we all need once in a while, but with bad preparation the anxiety can quickly add up, so avoid packing poorly and follow our trusty guide.
THE BAG, , We’ve talked before about the best luxury luggage options available, and this Mulberry holdall is definitely up there with the best. It’s easy to get carried away and over-pack for a city break, but it’s best to keep it streamlined and go as light as possible. This is made all the more easy with a luxury holdall like this tan leather Clipper, which not only looks incredible but will also allow you to move swiftly through airport check-in.

THE SHOES, , If you’re going to pack one pair of shoes for a city break, then the brogue should be it. A gentleman’s essential, the full brogue is as classic as it gets, but it’s versatile too and will finish off smart or casual ensembles nicely. If you can afford it, be sure to go for a Goodyear Welted shoe, like these from Loake. As an investment piece, the extra cost will be worth it and if you look after them they really will last a lifetime.

THE JACKET, , When packing for a city break, it’s essential to prepare for the weather. By layering up you’ll not only create tonal depth with your outfits, but you can adjust to the weather accordingly, adding or removing layers to ensure you remain comfortable at all times. You’re outer most layer should be waterproof though like this classic A.P.C mac or this effortlessly stylish Aquascutum field jacket.

THE ESSENTIALS , , Anchor your city break wardrobe around a pair of slim, dark chinos like these by Incotex. More adaptable than jeans, they can be smartened up by a crisp check shirt and knitted tie, or kept relaxed with a quality cotton t-shirt – the choice is yours. Of course, don’t forget your sunglasses, which will keep the sun from blinding your tired, jet-lagged eyes.
