News – 5 FACTS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT NELSON MANDELA

Following last night’s tragic death of former South African president and anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Mandela, there has been an outpouring of tributes, stories and memories about the great man. Not only did he transform South Africa’s history but his incredible words and actions inspired the world. We all feel like we know everything about Nelson Mandela, but here are five things you might not know..

1. He briefly featured as a teacher in Spike Lee’s drama/biography, Malcolm X (1992).

2. He was made an honorary Canadian citizen and, prior to his death, he was the only living one.

3. Mandela’s birth name was Rolihlahla which, in Xhosa, means troublemaker.

4. His favourite food was tripe.

5. Mandela was a man of many talents.. including ballroom dancing.
