Similar to fashion, the world of fitness sees a number of trends come and go every few months and with this there is an influx of people all looking to adopt the latest ways to get fit. For the summer of course, the amount of people looking to get fit increases tenfold and with everyone looking to get a beach-ready body, there are always a number of inventive fitness trends that crop up, so we’ve rounded up our favourites.

BAREFOOT WORKOUT, Doing your regular workout with bare feet can improve your sense of balance, as well as help to strengthen and increase muscle strength in the legs and feet. When barefoot running, you can improve flexibility in your feet, given that there is nothing in contact with them and the ground.

AQUA RUNNING/CYCLING, Why run or cycle on the road when you can do it underwater? Not only is exercising underwater cool, it will work different muscles as well as being easier on your body, so it’s perfect for those recovering from a serious injury or for those looking to lose weight.

AERIAL YOGA, As if it wasn’t challenging enough. It seems everyone is on the aerial yoga bandwagon, and let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to hang from a stretchy hammock, holding positions that would make a contortionist squirm?

INTERVAL TRAINING, Interval training involves performing high-intensity bursts of exercise, with short rest periods in between. Different types of exercising will be performed within the same training session, allowing you to achieve a full body workout, if you so wish.

BODY WEIGHT TRAINING, Although this is the simplest form of exercising, that doesn’t mean it’s any less effective. It doesn’t cost you anything and you won’t have to carry around any heavy equipment. What’s more, you can perform body weight training within the comfort of your own home. Doing push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and squats are all effective ways of boosting strength and flexibility, so what are you waiting for.
