Given the lack of time in modern life, what we really appreciate at Gentleman’s Journal are wardrobe items that can move seamlessly between many scenarios and occasions. Pristine, unembellished white leather sneakers, for example, are suitable for both client drinks and weekend city breaks. The same can be said of an Oxford shirt, or a deconstructed navy blazer. MR MARVIS, the Amsterdam label known for its premium selection of swimwear, shorts and trousers, has recently produced a few items that strike that balance between formal and off-duty: The Smart Easies, a selection of soft, stretchy yet refined trousers that inject comfort into the work wardrobe and a hit of finesse into the casual one.

Done out in moleskin – a mélange material that’s appreciated for its brushed feel – these autumn/winter staples are championed as a smarter take on the label’s The Easies, and are delineated by their slightly wider silhouette and slew of smart details. Notably, the waistband is elasticated, a feature that dials up the comfort factor and whose ribbed appearance adds a touch of texture, and the zip fly has an engraved front-closure button. Belt loops also add subtle, dressed-up touches.
For stowing away any small essentials, there’s the brand’s signature hidden zip pocket, as well as a single-welt back pocket complete with magnetic fastener. Meanwhile, whereas other collections by MR MARVIS comprise designs that are made in vivid, bright colours, The Smart Easies are largely dominated by grey hues, something that emphasises the work-attire feel.
The overall appearance is a clean, dialled-down set of trousers that work well in the boardroom, at the weekend and occasions in between.
