Towering above the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, 432 Park Avenue is one of the world’s tallest buildings, it stands at an astonishing 426 meters and is Manhattan’s latest titan of the skyline. Designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, who also designed 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London, 432 Park Avenue was inspired by the pure and simple geometry of the square.
The building was built on the site of an old hotel that was demolished in 2007, following its purchase by property developer Harry Macklowe. Macklowe had been known for his interest in modern art and architecture and was understandably keen to inject his passion into his home city. Construction began in early 2012 and just three years later, in early 2015, residents will begin moving in.
Much of the buzz surrounding the building has been concerning the $95 million penthouse suite that can only be described as spellbinding. It has been garnished with the finest rugs, paintings and furniture and is luxurious – yet simple. The view from the 10×10 foot windows is like something from science fiction – so high are you above the rest of the city. A massage room, outdoor terrace and a temperature controlled wine cellar don’t really come as standard with most NYC apartments and just adds to the majesty of this astonishing property. The bathroom too is impossibly glamorous with a highly simplistic bath placed right by a window, affording romantic views of the city as you bathe in serenity. The building was described as a gamble when Macklowe took it on – but it has already reached $1 billion in sales, with only half of it sold.
