Montblanc launch Renaissance-inspired leather collection

The esteemed German maison have unveiled an all-new leather collection, and it’s some of their finest work to date. Inspired by “sfumato”, an age-old painting technique adopted by the great Renaissance painters, including Leonardo Da Vinci himself, the collection consists of hand-painted leather that looks practically good enough to eat.

To launch such an inspired series of work, Montblanc hosted a star-studded party in London’s 3 Olaf Street. Award-winning actor and face-of-the-brand, Hugh Jackman, was present alongside Montblanc CEO Jerome Lambert. Selected pieces from the range were on show, with Jackman himself appearing to be quite taken with the “sfumato” patina of the leather.

Ranging from document holders, briefcases, tote bags, wallets, coin cases, card holders and belts, the collection is expansive to say the least. It’s the way each product has been finished that really elevates them though. Mr Lambert explains the process, “in the world of fine craftsmanship, we have found that by revisiting century-old techniques and ideas, new innovations can come to life. With the Sfumato Collection, our artisans have creatively borrowed a technique pioneered by the great masters to create timeless leather goods that have the distinctive qualities of a work-of-art. Because each piece of leather individually painted with the greatest passion and dedication, they are masterpieces in themselves.”
