Michael Schumacher is one of the all time greats of Formula 1. He is a seven time World Champion with an illustrious career than spans two decades. As everyone continues to wish him well in his recovery, we look back at some of his best, most controversial and most memorable moments of his record-breaking career.
Adelaide 1994: Michael Schumacher vs Damon Hill,
This controversial collision meant that Michael Schumacher went on to win his first world drivers’ championship. The German driver came into the race leading to Hill by one point and led the entire way. This was until the 36th lap when Schumacher clipped the wall and Hill tried to get ahead. Schumacher turned back into Hill, taking himself out of the race but also damaging Hill’s car in the process. Since then, Hill has objected that Schumacher did it on purpose though he denies this.

Most riders wouldn’t have the balls to go up against Aryton Senna at this point, but Schumacher wanted that 3rd place position. See him edge past Senna on the grass.
Michael Schumacher Wins 1998 British Grand Prix While In the Pits,
Silverstone, 1998, and a very controversial win for Ferarri and Schumacher. Taking advantage of a technical loophole, Schumacher took his stop and go penalty (given for passing Alexander Wurz unsafely) in the pit lane on the final lap. Due to the fact that the finish line extends across the pit lane he won as he was sitting there.
Second with a broken gearbox in 1994 Spanish GP Onboard
This incredible footage sees Schumacher taking 2nd in the 1994 Spanish Grand Prix despite the fact that he had to drive the last 40 laps in 5th gear after it faltered. True skill.
2000 Italian Grand Prix: Michael Schumacher Bursts into Tears
Despite being known as quite the emotionless driver, Schumacher uncharacteristically broke down in the press conference after his victory at the 200 Italian Grand Prix which saw him equal the record of 41 race wins with Aryton Senna.
