As is custom on the first Monday in May, the most influential names in culture, fashion and sport turned up to Fifth Avenue for the annual peacocking (and fundraising) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s edition celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, a ‘cultural and historical examination of Black style over three hundred years through the concept of dandyism’ – and all the major best-dressed lists have highlighted the superlative styles of Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and Stormzy. Below, we take a look at the wristwear on show…
Henry Golding and Cartier

Decked out in a golden-yellow ensemble, Golding paired his tailoring with a timepiece in a matching shade – the Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets, one of the biggest watch releases this year. A take on a 1928 design, it’s coveted for its mix of brutalism and futuristic stylings.
Noah Lyles and Omega

As a track athlete whose career is pinned on accurate time-keeping and precision, Lyles has been known to love an Omega timepiece or two. Here, he opts for a classic-looking De Ville Prestige in 18k yellow-gold on a brown leather strap.
A$AP Rocky and Bulgari

The one-time Gentleman’s Journal cover star slipped on the rule-bending Octo Finissimo Ultra, which measures just 1.8mm in thickness.
Stormzy and Patek Philippe

UK rapper Stormzy rocked up to The Met steps in pared-down black-and-white tailoring – his Nautilus Ref. 5711/110P, one of the most in-demand luxury sports watches about, has an equally refined look.
Patrick Schwarzenegger and Omega

The White Lotus star’s 38mm Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades is noted for its bold Moonshine-gold-on-Moonshine-gold composition.
Walton Goggins and Vacheron Constantin

Another hit from The White Lotus, Walton Goggins jumped for something a bit more muted in colour – the blue-and-silver Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface. The classic palette is counterbalanced by the innovative skeletonised dial.
Pharrell Williams and Richard Mille

Speaking of avant-garde, Pharrell drew the attention of horology buffs with the RM 74-02, another sketelonised piece that, in this case, has a baseplate and bridges machined from 18k 5N red-gold and 18k 3N yellow-gold, respectively.
Shaboozey and Audemars Piguet

One of the most vibrant bits of wrist armour on the night, Shaboozey’s Royal Oak Selfwinding is a statement piece that features a bold turquoise dial that stands in contrast to the 18k yellow-gold case.
Jeremy Allen White and Jaeger-LeCoultre

Allen White has become somewhat of a menswear icon in recent years, with his character’s grail jackets and T-shirts commonly featured in The Bear. He’s helped pump up the popularity for brands such as NN.07 and Merz b. Schwanen – and the latest label he’s shown off is Jaeger-LeCoultre, as he donned the house’s Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds.
Jalen Hurts and Breitling

This beautiful chronograph – instantly recognisable for its contrasting dial of black and blue and small red detailing – made for an under-the-radar moment on the wrist of the NFL quarterback.
