Order books have opened on Mercedes’ exciting new AMG GT model. The new sports car will have at its heart a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine – initially with 510hp and 479 lb ft of torque. This will sit in two models at launch – the GT S and GT S Edition 1 – with a GT model coming later in 2015 with 462hp.
The launch models will reach 62mph from zero in just 3.8 seconds and will hit a top speed of 193mph, putting Mercedes right in the mix with other supercar manufacturers. Even the ‘base’ GT model will complete the standard sprint in 4.0 seconds. As you would expect with a top-end Mercedes, equipment levels are extremely high, too.

The coming GT model will have 19 inch alloy wheels, a limited slip differential, Mercedes’ COMAND media and navigation system, a switchable AMG exhaust system, sports suspension and an adjustable electronic rear wing. The GT S model available at launch adds 20 inch alloys to the rear wheels, an electronically controlled rear differential and adjustable suspension.

Finally, the GT S Edition 1 adds a fixed rear wing and deep front splitter to the aerodynamic package, a carbon roof, and special AMG stitching inside. Options include a reversing camera, powerful Burmester audio system and keyless-go inside while mechanically, ceramic brake discs and dynamic engine mounts will get even more potential out of the Mercedes.
Available to order now, the new Mercedes-AMG GT S will cost £110,495 while the Edition 1 comes in at £122,745. For more information, click here.
