Twenty years on from the legendary F1 GTR, McLaren have unveiled a new machine bearing the iconic three letters. The McLaren P1 GTR is the most powerful, most exclusive and most technologically advanced car the Woking boys have ever made, and it looks the part too.
All in all only 25 cars will be produced, making it one of the most exclusive automobiles in production today. The P1 GTR boasts an increased power output of 986bhp over the original P1 and this, combined with its light weight of under 1400kg, means it will be shockingly fast. This is before you factor in the vast technological prowess that lurks beneath the carbon fibre body work though.
It features a Drag Reduction System taken straight from Formula 1, a fixed, race-prepared suspension system, and a new, twin-pipe exhaust system made from inconel and titanium allow. This car is extreme even for McLaren’s standards.
The McLaren P1 GTR’s core DNA is one that belongs on the race track. Indeed, it can only be driven on the race circuit. Instead of being created for a race series though, it has been incorporated into a unique programme, which gives a select group of customers the opportunity to drive the cars at specific F1 circuits around the globe. Designed for a number of lucky high net-worth individuals, those on board will receive world-class training with a development team not unlike those found in professional race series.
More specifically, the customers of the McLaren P1 GTRprogramme will get access to areas of the McLaren Technology Centre including use of Formula 1 simulators as well as the Human Performance Centre. For an insight into the programme, click on the video below.
