Why linen will be your wardrobe saviour this summer
It's time to embrace the king of the natural fabrics
Words: Nikki
They say good things come in threes. And, as the temperature keeps on rising, and the sun keeps on shining, a new wardrobe is the third benefit of this balmy summer. Forget being trapped in that same old suit of yours, suffering from rapidly rising body heat and unsightly sweatiness. Instead, it’s time to embrace that most summery of fabrics, the king of the natural fibres; linen.
Your usual uniform of a slick sartorially-sound suit or denim-cut casualwear just won’t pass muster when the mercury shoots skywards. Luckily, more designers than ever have blessed us this year with natural fibres. Linen, and to a slightly lesser extent, natural lightweight cotton, are both threaded with a spun yarn derived from natural sources – and it is this meticulous technique that makes them a breath of fresh air.
They allow air to naturally circulate through your garments, whilst all the while absorbing any unwanted moisture by wicking it away from your skin. Natural fibres are available on any budget, and from more brands than ever – so there’s no longer any excuse for letting a little sunshine rain on your sartorial parade.
It can be difficult to find a brand in London that understands the heat, but Love Brand & Co have got it covered. Not only do they have fantastic ethos as a company, but they produce stunning linen separates and fast drying swim shorts which sit at a perfect mid-thigh length. So, while it’s still sunny in the city, head down to either their Chelsea or Notting Hill store to enjoy their beach hut look, and upgrade your casual wear whilst you’re at it.
Who better to help us counteract the heat than an Aussie national? Patrick Johnson has created his exclusive lightweight summer suit range for Mr Porter using the early inspiration of his English grandfather’s perfectly curated wardrobe – a man who appreciated the need for some seriously well-cut summer tailoring.
