Linen shirts have never looked so good. Introducing Turnbull & Asser’s new collection
The Royal Warrant holders have revealed their perfect pattern for a seasonal shirt
Words: Jonathan Wells
When warmer months roll around, the mercury rises and the heat becomes close to unbearable, tailoring tends to fly out of the freshly-opened window. Our summer wardrobes become slaves to practicality — collars loosen, cuffs unbutton and cuts become looser than they have any right to.
But don’t sweat it. Armed with their Royal Warrant and over a century of shirt-making knowledge, heritage clothiers Turnbull & Asser have announced the launch of their first linen shirt collection. And if that doesn’t get you hot under the collar, in the right way, we don’t know what will.
Lightweight, relaxed and long-sleeved, these shirts are perfect for the holiday season, and were created by the brand in close partnership with the famed Albini Group, legendary cloth suppliers who source their linen yarn from the fields of Normandy, and weave it into creation in their Bergamo workrooms.
But Britain is where the shirts really take shape, given the same care in Turnbull & Asser’s Gloucester factory as every other style of shirt the brand creates — but in a luxurious linen ideal for the warmer seasons.
Lightweight in nature, with an airy and slightly open structure, these attributes help ensure the wearer is able to stay cool, regardless of intense city-based schedules or sweltering weather. Expect a traditional long-sleeve with a relaxed Cambridge button down collar, giving you one of the most versatile linen shirts on the market and the opportunity to shrug this on under a suit or on the beach.
And, true to its summer roots, there’s a bit of colour and energy in this new collection, available in a variety of different palettes and preferences including navy, sky blue, pink, lilac, turquoise, orange, green and natural. See? We told you not to sweat it.
