Layer like a gentleman this winter

Layer like a gentleman this winter

Although we seem to have stumbled into an unseasonably warm winter, there are still moments in the day where we’ve felt that chill and wished we’d been forward thinking enough to bring that extra layer with us. For us, winter style starts and ends with layering. Some of the most stylish gentlemen in the world can get away with never wearing a huge winter coat, purely because they’ve perfected the fine art of layering. And one brand that always find ourselves returning to is T.M Lewin, a brand fit for a gentleman and one that’s been making perfect winter clothes since 1898.

The key with layering is to get the pieces right; to make sure that you’re not wearing anything too bulky or over-the-top. Subtlety is of the utmost importance and that’s why T.M. Lewin should be the brand that you head to first.

The jumper

Start with a jumper, such as this lambswool one. This is the perfect piece to wear on those days when you’re unsure whether it’s going to pour with rain or be in the mid-20s. It looks sharp, and is the perfect piece to take you from day to night. Wearing a shirt underneath maintains a smartness and is the fulcrum of a truly timeless look.

The blazer

A casual blazer such as this is the perfect thing to wear over that knitwear. It keeps the whole look slightly more relaxed yet no less put-together than it would be if you were just wearing a shirt and a blazer. If you go for a colour such as this, it’s important to keep the rest of your outfit more neutral so that you don’t overcomplicate things. Navy or black would be ideal.

The scarf

Next up comes the all important scarf, the accessory that can truly make or break your outfit and a piece that many gentlemen often get wrong. This stunning scarf is exactly what you need to keep your winter layering smart and sharp. Again, it’s important to stick to neutral colours, which this piece does beautifully. A simple Chelsea knot or wrap around will more than suffice.

The hat

Last but by no means least comes the hat; a complex accessory that many gentlemen are often too scared to wear. This flat cap, however, is the perfect item – whether you find yourself in the country or the city. It’s bound to take your look to the next level and will guarantee that you look the part, no matter where you are; channeling an air of a certain Mr Beckham.
