Royal rumble: King Charles’s Land Rover Defender is up for sale

Even with 15 years on the clock, this robust workhorse has plenty of miles left in its story

When it comes to owning a bit of royal-family history, the paraphernalia on offer is usually limited to mugs, plates and the odd framed photo to go on your String shelving. On 22 March, you can dial things up a few levels, as Iconic Auctioneers is putting King Charles’s former 2010 Land Rover Defender 90 up for sale. The robust drive, done out in Keswick green, was supplied by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations for sole use by Charles, who at the time was the Prince of Wales, and Camilla – and it was delivered new to the Royal Garage at Highgrove House in November, 2010, with the confirmation letter addressed to Tim Williams, head chauffeur to the two royals.

Within the shell is a charcoal-grey interior, and there’s only minor wear to the driver’s seat, indicating that this maybe was not chauffeur-driven. Paperwork and documents, such as a user’s guide, a Land Rover Assistance membership card and the original book pack, will be part of the delivery. Five-star comforts aren’t in abundance – bar the heated seats and heated front and rear windscreens – and with just under 25,000 miles on the clock, there’s plenty of life left in this regal workhorse.
