Set within the 62,000-acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and Mount Kenya’s hushed plains is Kifaru House, a singular retreat that offers a pretty remarkable escape from chaotic city centres and the relentless tourist hordes. It is largely made from locally sourced materials, and an earthy, natural palette has been implemented so that the whole place can blend harmoniously into the landscape. Dotted around the premises are five generous ensuite cottages (sizes range from 840sq ft to 1,200sq ft) that, altogether, can sleep 12. There’s a cabana, pool and pool house; a guide’s cottage is on site; and the central mess hall expands to 3,085sq ft. An ‘organic kitchen garden’ also dials up the appeal. Further eco-friendly efforts, such as using solar panels to generate electricity and heat water, are carried out, too.
Wildlife within the surrounds includes zebras, cheetahs and elephants; helicopter excursions and camel safaris can be undertaken; and, when investing in the property, you’ll also be partnering in the continuous conservation efforts that are being carried out in the vicinity, the details of which can be found via Knight Frank’s Private Office.
