Jimmy Choo | London Collections: Men

With London taking first slot on the men’s fashion calendar Cole Simmons discusses Jimmy Choo’s first London Collections: Men presentation. The Japanese attraction to all things bright and beautiful and why London is no longer all mouth and no trousers.

LONDON– When it comes to men of style filling our wardrobes with exquisite paisley slippers, leather loafers, and comfortable driving shoes the plethora of British heirtage brands are endless. Yet, thanks to Jimmy Choo, the iconic label started in 1986, for women, the brand felt the need to begin a menswear line. Beginning in 2011, the menswear collections have consistently combined Italian craftmanship with British style and an uncomprisng standard even the Duke of Windor would undoubtedly marvel at the beauty of.

As for the luxurious aesthetic —and the sharp-witted names (including Sloane and Barbican)—of the latest collection, Sandra Choi, the sole creative director and niece of Jimmy Choo has woven those practices more fully and deeply in the latest collection. Particularly, as today’s Spring Summer 2014 presentation marks the first time the men’s shoes have been presented at London Collections: Men. Citing the intentional opening last month of their two-floor flagship store to London’s sophisticated Dover Street as ‘the right timing.’

Perhaps no designer is more aware than Sandra Choi of the amazing value and the recent shift of being a part of the exponential rise of London’s menswear industry, of the visual creative liberty, and of the unapolgetic style identity worn by men working, living, studying and visiting in London.

What Choi and her team do so effortlessly is offer the global consumer a look and feel into the paradox that is British style: eccentricity and understated, proving both forms of dress can coexist. Michelle Cook, (Jimmy Choo’s UK public relations manager), explained, “there is a strong following of Jimmy Choo in Japan. The Japanese men are very experimental, many of our Japanese consumers enjoy wearing our designs with stars, whereas British men tend to lean towards our classic, understated Dandy look.”

Though shoes like the Gentry stand out in the collection with its two toned, leather and suede design, more subtle (or not-so-subtle depending on one’s taste) python shoes are perfect for the summer season’s dinner party attire.Whatever your taste with Jimmy Choo having it’s first presentation at London Collections: Men the cat is out of the bag: London isn’t simply all mouth and no trousers.
