A solid red gold case measuring 42 millimetres in diameter catches the eye on IWC’s latest collaborative venture. Limited to just 74 pieces, the latest riff on the Ingenieur comes in celebration of the watchmaker’s partnership with revered motorsport event, Goodwood Members’ Meeting – the 74th of which took place last weekend.
The case itself is a step back from the traditional, technically-inspired design of Gérald Genta that usually inhabits timepieces carrying the Ingenieur moniker. Pared back, old-school sensibilities instead decorate the metal and come accompanied by a similarly luxurious and stylishly inclined strap. Brown sumptuous calfskin proves the perfect partner to the conspicuous gold body; quilt embossing lending a shot of detailing to contrast the smooth lined case.
Behind the glass, the black dial is a knowing nod to the dashboard of the engineering feats that roam the track at Goodwood. The two totalisers, small seconds and tachymeter scale running round the edge affirming the homage.
Inside, the Chronograph’s guts are suitably as impressive as the exterior beauty. The movement glimpsed from the signature clear, sapphire crystal back, debuts the new IWC-manufactured 69370 calibre, which comprises more than 200 components and a 46-hour power reserve.
The Members’ Meeting Chronograph forms part of a troika of racing-inspired Ingenious, newly released from the storied brand. The Goodwood joins a chronograph inspired by legendary driver Rudolf Caracciola and another riffing on the Mercedes W125 Silver Arrow, both of which are limited to 750 pieces each.
