Issue preview: Introducing The Brit Pack, a new generation of British actors
From interviews with some of film’s most seasoned actors to a style shoot with Dominic Cooper, take a look inside our Actors Special
Words: Jonathan Wells
Back in January, we rolled cameras on our annual Actors Special — scouring screens big and small for the six most promising young actors in Britain. And, from thesps taking Netflix by storm to performers stepping into leading roles for the first time, we found them.
And we didn’t stop there. From Pierce Brosnan to Michael Douglas, we also turned to a select handful of seasoned actors for their life advice. Not to mention buttoning Dominic Cooper into the latest styles for this issue’s fashion shoot. We also amassing a spotlight-stealing array of products in our Portfolio section, from houses featured in films to a truly big-budget yacht. It’s a show-stopper of an issue.
Whiskey, watches and workwear makes it into our Portfolio
In this issue’s Portfolio, we explore why watch manufacturers have caught a case of the blues, and focus in on Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’. Elsewhere we get behind the wheel of Bentley’s latest Continental GT Convertible and step inside houses that have featured in Blade Runner and The Godfather, among others.
When it comes to style, we’ve explored the best new trends in workwear — and discovered the ideal New York hotel for your next business trip. And then, before weighing anchor on superyacht Inception, we sing the praises of sherry and explain why whisky should be your next big investment.
Listen to our friends in high places
In our new column section, we’ve called on five of the most well-connected, interesting men we know to give their opinions on success, culture, politics, food — and the art of living the good life.
Expect insights on the awards season from Nick Grimshaw, how to read yourself rich by Sam Leith, an op-ed on the beautiful madness of restaurants from Jackson Boxer and why the glory days of the Alps are behind us by the last playboy himself, Taki Theodoracopulos.
Our features will take you from London’s moneyed streets to frozen Alpine lakes
Looking for the true story of a Ukranian oligarch, an iceberg mansion in Knightsbridge and an ‘international racketeering company’? Well then flick to our features pages, because we’ve got every incredible true word. Pair that with interviews from designer Brunello Cucinelli and GoPro founder Nick Woodman for one of the most riveting sections in this issue.
Dominic Cooper also stars in our style shoot, where the actor takes his villain-red Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 across the British countryside. Elsewhere, we head to St Moritz for the Snow Polo World Cup, and the back benches of the House of Commons to take a guess at the next leader of our country.
Introducing the next generation of British acting talent
Our cover feature — the first ensemble cover ever for Gentleman’s Journal — is chocked full of faces to watch. From Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Leo Suter, to Malachi Kirby and Edward Bluemel, we interviewed and shot six of the most promising young British actors in their natural black tie.
They talked the audition process, how London is a hotbed for acting talent and why streaming television has created such an exciting world for young actors. “We millennials,” says Chance Perdomo, “have been born in a golden age.” We couldn’t agree more.
Elsewhere, we speak to Michael Douglas, Pierce Brosnan and Richard E. Grant about their long and illustrious careers — and what wider life lessons they’ve learned from them.
Hit the London club scene in our society pages
From being a fly on the wall at some of the season’s best parties, to reading about the downfall of London’s once-thriving club scene, our society pages are full of witty insights and observations.
Turn to our back page, too, to learn the biggest mistake of Charlies Tyrwhitt founder Nicholas Wheeler — just one of the many helpful lessons to be discovered in our latest issue.
