Introducing the debut men’s collection from Malone Souliers
The cult shoe brand is expanding its quirky aesthetic to men’s designs - and we can’t get enough of them
You’ve probably seen them in the party pages of glossy magazines or on the feet of the most stylish women you know: unusual, almost architectural shoes with unexpected details and bold colourways. These are talking point shoes, which is why, if you’ve ever come across a woman wearing a pair, you’ll know they’re from Malone Souliers.
Founded by Cordwainers alumnus Mary Alice Malone in 2014, Malone Souliers’ intelligent, thoughtful approach to design quickly made the brand a hit, with famous fans including Elizabeth Olsen, Solange Knowles and Lupita Nyong’o. And, for SS20, the label is finally expanding into men’s designs.
Drawing on the deep interest in psychology which informs all her collections, Mary Alice Malone has identified five archetypes on which to base her shoes – The Nurturer, The Artist, The Thinker, The Disrupter and The Crusader – and these remain present in her first men’s collection. Links to the established women’s styles are also found in Malone’s choice of colours, bold fabrics and Malone Souliers’ signature double strap design.
The debut Miles loafer, a classic versatile slip-on shoe, is defined as a member of the Malone Souliers family thanks to its elegant sole and slightly elongated and squared off toe, reminiscent of some of the brand’s most popular women’s designs. Available in seven variations, each embodying an aspect of the Malone’s archetypal figures, traditionalists will love the classic patent black leather and velvet designs ideal for taking you from office to bar. Colours fans should invest in the purple suede or unusual woven denim versions while those looking to stand out at their next black tie event will find much to love in the glitter, crystal and monochrome patterned styles.
Available to buy now, with prices starting at £475, which of Malone Souliers’ archetypes will you be channeling this season?
