Swiss watchmaker Piaget’s new incarnation of their iconic Polo wristwatch is a dramatic and exciting departure from the established design. As the first timepiece in the series to abandon precious metals in favour of steel, the Polo S is a ‘game changer’ – and was launched last month in New York under that very tagline.

Available in five variations, the Polo S collection has reinvented the original 1979 gold design in a bid to attract a younger and more casual audience seeking a versatile, everyday watch.
Two of these variations are chronographs (£11,650), which offer either a silver or blue dial, and have a case thickness of 11.2mm – relatively thin for an automatic chronograph. The trio of three-hander designs (£8,650), which also include a date feature, come in silver, blue and a third, sleek slate grey option.

All five designs are stainless steel, and boast polished flanks and brushed bezels. They also feature sapphire crystals on front and back, luminous markers and water resistance to depths of 100 metres.
The striking ‘shape within a shape’ design works just as well in steel as it does in gold or titanium, and the fold-over clasp and brightly polished outer links give what is essentially a sports watch a ‘game-changing’ luxurious feel.

Eight befittingly ‘game-changing’ men were invited to the New York launch event to illustrate the versatility of the timepiece and, from British polo player Malcolm Borwick to Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds, Piaget showed that this reinvention of an iconic timepiece means that it is now as equally at home on the field as it is on film.
