McLaren are arguably the most forward-thinking automotive manufacturer on the planet, yet their heritage is as storied as they come. Recently they have been pushing the boundaries of road car performance with machines such as the 650S and P1 but this, the McLaren 675LT, steps things up once again.

The most hardcore road car to roll out of the Woking factory, the 675LT has been inspired by the iconic F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ of 1997, fusing elements of its raw, track-focussed nature to create an intense driving experience like no other. A striking exterior design overhaul, coupled with a highly-tuned version of McLaren’s twin-turbocharged V8 ensures that the 675LT is way more than just an update of the 650S.

Featuring McLaren’s signature carbon fibre MonoCell and numerous adaptive aero components including a revised rear wing and larger defuser, the 675LT boasts an incredible 40% more downforce than the 650S. It’s also 100kg lighter, thanks to carbon bucket seats, additional carbon fibre body panels and a 1mm thinner windscreen – no stone was left unturned.

McLaren has faced criticism for their road cars lacking a certain drama that may be more overtly present in Italian equivalents. This qualm was destroyed with the P1 though, and the 675LT is set to continue the thrills. A new titanium exhaust system ensures the devilish, 666bhp V8 will deliver an aggressive, full-bodied sound, and the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox will punch through the gears instantaneously. Going from standing to 60mph will take just 2.9 seconds, and with a top speed of 205mph, the McLaren 675LT is a class leader when it comes to the speed stakes.

It’s the aggressive new look that we can’t get enough of though. For those who failed to get excited about the 12C and didn’t think the 650S was enough of an update, this is bound to get the blood flowing.
