Introducing: Ferrari F60 America

Introducing: Ferrari F60 America

Words: Chris Lilly

America has long held a love affair with Ferrari and the Italian marque has paid tribute to this with a new special edition. The F60 America celebrates 60 years of the Prancing Horse in the United States and been made exclusively available on the other side of the Atlantic.

Based on the F12 Berlinetta, Ferrari retains the GT car’s V12 engine, which is front-mid mounted for the best possible balance. Power levels have not been announced but will be similar to the foundation model’s 731bhp since the 0-62mph time is completed in just 3.1 seconds – the same as that quoted for the F12 Berlinetta. The greatest change for the F60 America is the removal of the roof. A lightweight fabric cover is available and usable at speeds up to 74mph but is only really aimed for emergency use in poor weather. The Ferrari is clearly designed to be used as an open-top car in the style of a classic Barchetta with large roll-over hoops dominating the rear end. These hoops are trimmed with leather while the flying buttresses behind are made from carbon fibre.

Surrounded by the aerodynamically honed and muscular exterior, the driver will find themselves centre of attention inside with all the instruments and cabin design tailored towards the seat behind the steering wheel. Featuring racing seats and a number of composite materials used in the cabin, the F60 America further distances itself from the F12 Berlinetta with a special commemorative Ferrari badge replacing the traditional shield on the front flanks and replicated inside too.

Finally, the Ferrari F60 America is finished in the traditional racing colours of navy and white as used by the Maranello firm’s North American Racing Team. Each of the highly exclusive models, of which only ten examples have been made, are spoken for with US Ferrari collectors showing a lot of enthusiasm for this special machine.
