The new Land Rover Discovery Sport has already received heaps of praise for its ability to look incredibly stylish whilst remaining inherently functional, but more importantly, it’s rare that sequel car designs look as natural and evolutionary as this.
With its sweeping curves and rounded edges, the new Discovery Sport is an entirely different beast from its boxy, staid-looking predecessors which, despite selling well, didn’t win many points in the style department. It’s far from just a looker though, and in true Land Rover fashion the new edition will be packed full of the latest technology, which should keep it head and shoulders above its other compact SUV rivals.
That said, some have criticised Land Rover for shunning the brand new iQ platform (used on the new Jaguar XE), for a modified, but simpler platform that was first introduced on the Range Rover Evoque (it looks a bit like one too). It will be a noticeable absence but what the new Disco may lack in complex technology it will more than make up for under the bonnet.
The front end houses a 187bhp 2.2-litre engine and either a nine-speed auto or six-speed manual gearbox which, combined with the stunning new design, makes it release for road-testing in a month or two, a very exciting prospect.
