Iconic – The Barbour Jacket
Words: Gentleman's Journal
With Tweed making a come back, we also see the return of the iconic wax jacket. Many brands are trying their own designs of this classic style, but in our view there is only one brand that have the heritage to match this beautiful design.
Barbour is the brand in question and it began in 1894 in South Shields. Today it still remains based on the North East, not only this but it still remains a family business with the 5th generation now at the helm. Barbour continues to manufacture over 3,000 jackets a week from their factory based in Simonside.
What makes the Waxed Barbour Jacket so unique is its combination of functionality and style. The original waxed jacket was designed for its water repellant and thorn proof qualities, which it still remains completely unrivalled in. They are renowned for their quality finish and seemingly stylish features that double up as practical characteristics in all elements of weather.
Today this jacket is as at home in the countryside as it is in the town. Available in both olive green and navy, this jacket will last a long and active lifetime. £219 barbour.com
