How To Stop Boredom At Work
Words: Violet
Obviously The Gentleman’s Journal team are never bored at work. Not even at 5pm on a Friday. But, we know that we’re lucky in that way and that for the rest of the working world there are of course moments throughout the day when concentration dips and boredom kicks in. Luckily, there are a million and one sites on the internet that offer truly helpful and mind-enhancing ways to fill such boredom. As finding such lists can indeed induce boredom itself, we thought we’d do the hard work for you and show you some of our favourite ways to fill bordeom at work, from the best, the worst and the just plain ridiculous…
THE BEST
Get ahead with work to make the rest of your week less stressful
Do some exercise – go for a quick run, hit the gym or even just a walk around the block
Network – Got an hour to kill? Organise a meeting and get networking
Plan – sort out your diary, tidy your desk, anything that could de-clutter your life and fill some time basically
Make lists – life goals, aspirations, things to get done by the end of the day…
Volunteer – Instead of sitting twiddling your thumbs, why not offer to help out a friend or colleague and relieve their work load a little
Tidy – De-clutter your workspace/inbox for a clearer mind
Music – your favourite song is ensured to get you back in a productive mood
THE WORST
Dip into the petty cash supply
Make a bow and arrow out of a rubber band and a pen
Make pictures with post-it notes
Make animals with any kind of office material (ie: paper clips, bull-dog clips, anything you can see within an arms reach)
Prank your colleagues (actually this should really be in the top section, but for the sake of looking like sensible gentlemen of the office we’ll leave it here)
Sleep (some employees actually encourage this…you are the lucky ones!
Chair wars with colleagues (if you have to ask you don’t know)
THE RIDICULOUS (LY STUPID and actually incredibly humorous things that we found on the web)
Eat a pomegranate; count the seeds
Syphon gas from other employees cars
Pretend that you are in a race car; make the cool noises too
Create a gravity defying construction
