HIGHLIGHTS – DAY 2 LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN SS15

Words: Charlie Thomas

With Day 1 of London Collections: Men impressing across the board, pressure was on for Day 2 to live up to expectations. And it didn’t disappoint. Here, we take a look at our favourite shows and presentations of the day:

ORLEBAR BROWN

, Orlebar brown covered both ends of the spectrum at their Floral Street presentation, as bold prints and daring colours were on show alongside simple, clean tailored resortwear. We particularly enjoyed their boxy-fit pullover and shorts combination, which is just perfect for the beach.

OLIVER SPENCER

Slowly redefining British menswear one collection at a time, Oliver Spencer didn’t disappoint in his SS15 LC:M show. An impressive spectacle in its own right, the show featured a live drumming band and carnival dancers, creating a raucous atmosphere that was topped off by another outstanding collection. We particularly liked the lightweight summer suede jackets, coloured outerwear and classic tailoring.

RICHARD JAMES

, Richard James always put on one of the most dazzling catwalk shows at LC:M, and this time round they hit the nail on the head once again. Unleashing the safari trend to full effect, Richard James displayed masterful lightweight summer jackets in neutral colours, paired with seasonally appropriate accessories, cementing their position as perhaps the most forward thinking of all savile row brands.

HACKETT

, Typically British in everything they do, Hackett was an undoubted high point of Day 2. Their SS15 collection channeled riviera vibes, with off-white pieces being paired with rich shades of blue. A striking pale pink suit also further highlighted the prominence of pastel shades for SS15.

DUCHAMP

, Taking place at The Rosewood Hotel, Duchamp’s SS15 presentation was an opulent spectacle for all lucky enough to attend. Three types of looks were on display: British heritage, contemporary riviera and creative black tie. All three were outstanding but their riviera attire was nothing short of inspiring, perfectly marrying formality with relaxed tailoring.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

, Choosing to incorporate bold accents of colour to typically refined, almost minimal garments, Alexander McQueen made a real impression on the fashion world of Day 2 of London Collections:Men. The collection featured roomy, flowy silhouettes that draped over the body, perhaps signalling a move away from the slim fit cut that has dominated over the last few years.

MOSCHINO

, Taking staple menswear garments and transforming them with bold prints and bright colours, Moschino created a real stir with their SS15 London Collections:Men catwalk show. Bomber, biker and trucker jackets were splashed with bright, nationality-themed patters, and statement pieces were introduced including a striking pair of dungarees and an oversized fisherman’s jacket.

CASELY-HAYFORD

Casely Hayford - TGJ.01

Finishing off Day 2 with a bang, Casely-Hayford brought the house down with their SS15 collection, playing with variations of length, texture and formality. Elongated bomber jackets were a highlight, as was the use of pinstripe on casual garments such as a box-cut lightweight jacket and baseball caps.
