4 classic dress shirts you need in your wardrobe
Words: Charlie Thomas
If there’s one thing that Britain, and more specifically London, has become known for over the years, it’s gentleman’s clothing. At the height of its sartorial power, our nation’s Capital was a mecca for quality tailoring and accessories, with the majority of them being produced on our own shores. Whilst there has been a resurgence in menswear during recent times, we still haven’t reached our former peak, although many of the brands that existed the first time around still continue to thrive today. One such brand is Hawes & Curtis, the Jermyn Street shirtmaker of over 100 years.
Hawes & Curtis were founded by two gents, Ralph Hawes and Freddie Curtis back in 1913. It was their aim from the outset to appeal to the style-conscious man-about-town and indeed both the jet-set and Royalty caught on fast. Famous clients of Hawes & Curtis over the years include the likes of Cary Grant, the Duke of Windsor, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire and Earl Mountbatten.
Today though, the brand appeal to a much wider audience and their shirts for men are pleasingly accessible. Here are a few of our favourites.
