The art of gunmaking is something that, for most of the year, is hidden away in a workshop or factory. Meeting the brawn and brains behind some of the most renowned names is an opportunity reserved for the few, owners and designers all too easily confined to the limitations of our imagination.
Flagship stores in the Capital afford us the chance to see the likes of the finest Holland & Hollands and Purdeys on display, but there are many marques that escape deserved attention, gunmakers cutting and creating stunning inroads into the realms of sporting arms.
Cue the World Gunmakers Evening 2015, hosted by GunsOnPegs at The Jumeirah Carlton Tower Ballroom and Garden Rooms – an unprecedented event that brought 32 names of the gunmaking world together under one roof. On display were instruments by Boss & Co, Longthorne, Rigby and Joseph Manton, to name a few – the latter having recently burst back onto the gunmaking scene in dramatic fashion, showcasing their much-anticipated triple barrelled shotgun.
For those with an interest in guns, this is as close to heaven as you are likely to come without having to throw yourself into a log chopper. Guns galore, of all gauges, stock patterning and engraving – it is the Guggenheim of gunmaking, where everything can be bought and enjoyed for seasons to come.
