For years it was seen as ‘un-gentlemanly’ and wrong for a man to use grooming products, to take care of his appearance and to actively invest in what was commonly seen as more of a womanly pastime. Thanks to the likes of Gandy, Beckham, etc. and a plethora of male orientated grooming products, grooming for men is now not such a sensitive subject. In fact, there are so many products out there that it can be hard to whittle down exactly what you need and what you don’t. Do you really need a hydrating face mist? A special cloth to use every other day? A serum promising to smooth your face to perfection? Probably not, but here’s what you do need.
Razor

It goes without saying that every gentleman needs a razor to achieve that perfect, clean-shaven face, and there’s nothing better than D R Harris to add some class and style to your bathroom cabinet – as well as doing the job properly.
Shaving cream

You can’t have a proper shave without proper shaving cream, can you? Sandalwood is one of the most delicious smells in the world and is perfect for any gentleman wanting a subtle, signature smell. This isn’t just a one trick pony either: as well as being the perfect shaving cream, it will deeply moisturise the face and help get rid of any fine lines.
Face wash

Now that you have a perfectly shaven face, it’s time to keep things clean. You can’t go wrong with Aesop, a brand that focuses on using natural ingredients and incredible smells to enhance every gentleman’s grooming experience and to keep his face wonderfully soft and pimple free.
Exfoliator

There are those people in life who are blessed with absolutely flawless skin, but for those of you partial to a pimple or two, exfoliating your skin at least twice a week needs to become an essential part of your routine.
Moisturiser

If you don’t already moisturise, you need to start. Far too many men don’t, and it will only catch up with you later on in life. You need to get your skincare in order, and for many people that starts with the right moisturiser. Malin + Goetz prides itself on its natural ingredients and is perfect for sensitive skin.
Lip balm

No, you’re not too much of a man to wear lip balm. Get it together, gentlemen, and take care of your lips – starting now.
Eye cream

And yes, there are men out there who need this. You’re not too vain and you’re not above this and yes, you can embrace the wrinkles, but it always pays to have a cream like this on hand for those days when you need a bit of a lift.
Fragrance

We’ve spoken about the fragrances that will get you noticed, but if you’re still not convinced and are looking for something a bit more ‘manly’ (and easier to carry around), this Le Labo Thé Noir is a great choice. The brand prides itself on using purely natural ingredients and makes each and every fragrance in front of you, in house.
Deodorant

Obviously you need to wear deodorant.
Hand cream

The same thing applies for hand cream as it does with lip balm. Both are often seen as products that should be reserved solely for women, but that’s absolutely not the case. Men get dry hands too, and it’s neither manly or nice to look at.
