Clearly as respectable gentlemen you do things for yourself – you wear those bright yellow socks with your work suit because they make you smile in the morning. You wear those engraved cufflinks on special occasions because they once belonged to your grandfather, and they make you feel proud or maybe you grew a beard because you thought it looked cool and virile. That said, however, it’s perfectly acceptable to do or wear something purely to impress, please, even entice the opposite sex, and why not! Why else do you think women march around in 5 inch heels on first dates? Hint: it’s nothing to do with increased comfort levels.
It is, therefore, totally justifiable for you to think about what woman want this summer and, more importantly, what they want from you in the grooming stakes. When it comes to hair, women know what they want. This is probably something to do with the fact that girls were crimping, dying, back-brushing and straightening before boys of a similar age had even progressed from eating dirt in the playground. So when it comes to your hair, gentlemen, she knows what’s possible, she knows how to improve it, work with what you’ve got and make the best of it. If you think the girl you’re dating with the soft waves and honey blonde highlights wakes up looking like that…think again. So when we tell you that you’d suit a side parting, or could do with a bit off the sides – take the advice – we know what we’re talking about. And the hairstyles of this summer are no exception.
There are three looks that women are already talking about for the summer, so read on to fit which hairstyle you should be adopting this season.
THE MODERN QUIFF

OK, we know – this style has already had too much air-time, but the trend for a bigger, messier, modern quiff shows no sign of waining. So keep yours going, remember it’s short on the sides, and rough cut on top with a range of products – if you need a recap, just read on here: thegentlemansjournal.co.uk – the reason this works so well in the summer is because it’s smart enough to wear in the office, but the mussed up top gives a more care-free and summery feel. Perfect to take you from the office to the roof-top bar in spot-on style. Ask almost any woman and she’ll say she loves this hair trend, why else do you think it’s stuck around for so long? Not forgetting that it adds a secret 2 – 3 inches to your height!, THE LONG BEACH WAVES

No doubt, many a man will be gasping in shock at this – “What Gentleman would sport such unruly locks?”, well if we learnt anything from Country Life’s somewhat bizarre list of what makes a gentleman last week (we still think our list is better), it’s that being a gentleman has little to nothing to do with looks and fashions, but rather a sense of self, charm and good manners (that part we do agree on). Moral of the story? If you want to grow it a little longer for summer then do – it reminds women of the summer crushes they had on surf instructors, or the fling they had with the barman at a beach hut in Bali aged 19. Even the major fashion brands are supporting this trend, with the likes of Etro sending models down the runway with damp, messy tresses for their spring/summer 2014 show., THE MID LENGTH WINDSWEPT LOOK
, This is a more subtle take on the long beach hair style and is more work friendly if you don’t have the luxury of a 6 month sabbatical on a desert island at your hands. This style works brilliantly on guys with already wavy hair and is incredibly easy to maintain. Simply add some volumisng mousse to the roots and some salt spray to the mid to end lengths and let it dry naturally. This look only improves when left to succumb to the natural elements of salt and sand and effortlessly lends itself to a Daniel Craig-esq hair whip when emerging from the sea or pool.
