5 whisky based cocktails every gentleman should know
Words: India Gladstone
With almost 130 years experience and having created one of the most iconic spirits in the world, Glenfiddich is undoubtedly one of the finest whiskeys a gentleman can drink. While we advocate that every gentleman enjoy a whiskey on the rocks, from time-to-time it’s also important that he knows how to put together an incredible Glenfiddich-based cocktail – and here the top five every gentleman should know.
The Pioneering Spirit
This delicious drink is the perfect balance of modern and traditional: the classic single malt Glenfiddich perfectly balances out the refreshing, sweet pear juice and agave nectar to make for a delicious whisky cocktail.
1 ½ parts Glenfiddich 12 Year Old
2 parts pear juice
½ part agave nectar
1 part lemon juice
Shake all ingredients on ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon peel.
The Sazerac
The Sazerac is one of the first cocktails in the history of this industry and takes us back to the 19th century. Whisky creates a mysterious taste along with aromatic bitters, a sugar cube, a sufficient amount of ice and absinthe to cover both the outside and inside of the glass.
1 sugar cube
60 ml single malt Glenfiddich
2 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
1 barspoon Absinthe
Lemon peel
Royal Balmoral Punch
Although relatively complex in ingredients and probably an acquired taste, this cocktail is quintessentially British; it is, after all, named after the Royal Family’s Scottish summer home and combines fine single malt and good English tea.
1 oz Glenfiddich 21-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
1 oz Tea Syrup (strong english breakfast tea mixed with one cup of sugar)2 oz Granny Smith apple juice2 oz lemonade2 oz champagne
Sonic Boom
For those who can’t quite handle a straight Glenfiddich but don’t want the fuss or sweetness of something flavoured with sugar or juice, the Sonic Boom is for you. Sharp, strong and to the point, this is a delicious whisky cocktail perfect for every gentleman.Crushed ice50 mL Glenfiddich 12 Year OldEqual parts soda and tonic water1 slice of lemon
Whisky Margarita
The classic margarita with a twist: this is the ultimate refreshing cocktail that every gentleman can enjoy. The one thing to remember is to miss out the salt – this will take away from the taste of the Glenfiddich rather than adding to it.
Crushed ice
50 mL of Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve
25 mL Curacao or Grand Marnier
Half of a squeezed lime
