Nest is a company which was bought by Google earlier this year. It’s product, The Nest, is a device which connects to the internet and acts as a thermostat and smoke and carbon monoxide detector for your home. It has a stylish LCD face which displays the temperature of the house. There are a variety of ways in which you can control The Nest, one of which is an app you can download to your phone or tablet and use to control the settings. You can turn the thermostat on when you’re on your way home to get the house nice and toasty in the winter. The new iOS 8 update will also help you to create the perfect wireless home, with its new feature the HomeKit. This will allow you to remotely control appliances from your iPhone or iPad, such as dimming lights or locking doors. And the best part about this is that it’s built into software that your phone will acquire for free – all you need to do is download it.

In fact, why don’t you go for the whole hog and get yourself the Control 4 Home Automation system. Originally designed for disabled people, the creator saw that the product could actually be applied to luxury living, too. The system aims to integrate every electronic appliance and product already existing in your home in order to make them work cohesively together – the dawn of the smart home. Control 4 automates lighting, music, video, climate control, security, and even can tap into smartphones and tablets, and can be completely voice activated. Pretty savvy, wouldn’t you say.
