When you’ve enjoyed great success in life, returning home isn’t just a case of walking through the front door, cracking open a beer and slumping onto the sofa to watch the game. The successful do things slightly differently…
SWIM
Many affluent people have pools in their houses and enjoy a swim in the evenings – some are even fortunate enough to live close to the sea and can enjoy a dip in the ocean at sunset. Swimming is a great way to exercise, yes it’s very relaxing at the same time. Being able to exercise within, or in close proximity to, your home is a luxury that most cannot afford.
DINE
The successful demand perfection, for this character trait is one of the main reasons that they have done so well. Their attitude towards food is no different and they enjoy the finest cuisine that money can buy. Often they’ll have a in-house chef, or doting spouse that will rustle up a favourite dish for them – but make no mistake the successful are not too grand to cook their own food, indeed, many enjoy the task of cooking even after a long day at work.
WORK
The successful did of course achieve their success through their phenomenal work ethic and they are, by nature, workaholics. They may choose to leave the office at five, but make no mistake, they never really switch off. They’ll be on their phone, checking stock prices, firing off emails to the PA. They’ll also likely be on the home desktop, proofreading documents for the next board meeting and researching rivals.
READ
The autodidacticism of the successful cannot be underestimated – they love knowledge, they love to learn and they are voracious readers. It might be A Tale of Two Cities, Liars Poker or The Bonfire of the Vanities, the only thing you can say for sure is that they’ll definitely be reading and will dedicate at least half-an-hour to a book before turning in.
COLLECT
Many of the successful have bizarre hobbies that provide the practitioner with something they can focus their ever-whirring mind on and, for a moment get away from the perennial lure of work. Tom Hanks collects typewriters, Rod Stewart collects model trains and Warren Buffett – apparently a keen player – collects ukuleles. It’s essential to have a mental stimuli that does not involve work.
