The First Style-Conscious Smart Watch – The Moto 360

Motorola Moto 360 - TGJ.01

New wearable technology devices are being released at an uncontrollable rate, but what makes Motorola’s smart watch different?

The watch, which is due to be released in the summer, is already being anticipated eagerly by wearable tech lovers. However, everything about the Moto 360 is being kept extremely quiet. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but a pretty good idea of the functions can be drawn from the Motorola website. According to their images, the Moto 360 will (of course) tell the time, tell the temperature and weather forecast, store your calendar information and give you notifications of upcoming events. It should also be able to give directions, allow you to receive and send messages, and potentially take calls. In Motorola’s own words, “It’s time a watch did all of this, and still looked like a watch.”

Wearable technology has never been as in demand as it is now, but what makes the Moto 360 different is that it has been designed to look like a watch you could pick up at a luxury jewellers. Unlike any of its competitors, the Moto 360 has a circular face, mirroring the aesthetic of a classic timepiece. It even comes with customisable leather and metal straps, making it all the more relevant for today’s modern man.The device will charge wirelessly via magnetic induction, a feature that puts the watch heads and shoulders ahead of the existing competition. And the colour of their screen saver has even been considered in order to conserve battery. A smart move because let’s be honest, nobody has time to charge their watch in the middle of the day. The Android Wear technology will be pre-loaded onto the smart watch, although Motorola are yet to make clear whether the Moto 360 will be able to connect with all Android devices or just those made by Motorola.

While everything remains an enigma, it seems that the Moto 360 is Google’s answer to the inevitable but overdue Apple iWatch. Keep your eyes peeled and your wrist alert for more news.

The price has been rumoured at $250, but Motorola have specified that the final RRP when it comes to the launch may by significantly different. So all around, very helpful.
