Film – we’re the millers

Words: Violet

So, it’s the bank holiday this weekend. Chances are, things might get a little… wild. A three-day weekend is a wonderful thing, and must not be taken for granted. Every minute must be savoured. But come Monday evening, when you’ve had three nights of solid freedom (for which read: drinking), it’s fairly safe to assume you’ll want do something a little more sedate.

Cue: We’re The Millers. This feel-good film features Jennifer Aniston in a rare bad-girl role, playing a stripper called Rose. Yes, you heard that right. And, yes, there are numerous shots of her in her undies. Rose is persuaded by David (Jason Sudeikis) to come in on a pot-smuggling deal which could earn her $10,000. All they have to do is go to Mexico, pick up the stash, and bring it back over the border. They cadge two local kids, Kenny (Will Poulter) and Casey (Emma Roberts, in another rare bad-girl role) into posing as their children so they can all pretend to be one big, happy, all-American family, the Millers, to avoid suspicion from border police.

Obviously there are humorous mishaps such as the Mexican mafia opening fire on the family’s campervan, and Kenny being bitten by a tarantula. These are all played for laughs, needless to say, and the film rolls along at a steady, cheerful pace. Light-hearted (err, drug trafficking in South America is a pretty controversial topic right now) and silly, We’re The Millers is the perfect film for when you’re feeling tired, hungover and need an escape.
