Editor’s Picks: Electric Surfboards, Huntsman Cap and Daniel Craig Leica
From an electric-hybrid aircraft sponsored by Hamilton Watches to a pair of new suede desert boots from Tod’s, this is what we want this week…
Words: Jonathan Wells
Drink it in — because this is a vintage Editor’s Picks. This week, we’re serving up three tasty new and exclusive bottles and brews, starting with the latest collaged collaboration between The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake. There’s also the Italian sparkling wine set to drench Formula One podiums this season — and an award-winning pure French cider that’ll get your tastebuds tingling.
Elsewhere, we’re splashing down off-road tracks with a new Land Rover special edition, getting drenched testing out the latest model of electric hydrofoil from Fliteboard and taking to the skies with Hamilton and Breitling. Take a look…
Take flight: Breitling Chronomat Red Arrows Limited Edition
Swiss watchmakers Breitling have long been partners of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows. For 30 years, the pilots have proudly worn the brand’s chronographs during their daring displays. This latest special edition features The Red Arrows’ distinctive emblem, a stainless-steel Rouleaux bracelet and 70-hour power reserve — and is a fitting tribute to the airmen.

Sparkling form: Ferrari Trento Brut
Despite its high-octane name, Ferrari Trento has nothing to do with the Prancing Horse. Instead, this stuff is finely made fizz — and the new official bubbly partner to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. With notes of ripe fruit, golden apples and crusty bread, the Italian-made wine is set to be sprayed around on the F1 podium for the next three sparkling years.
Shoot to thrill: Leica Q2 "Daniel Craig x Greg Williams”
Another entry in the endless No Time To Die promotional product pile-up. But we’ll forgive this Leica Q2 as it’s almost as handsome as the man behind its design; James Bond himself. That’s right, Daniel Craig has teamed up with photographer Greg Williams to create this black-and-brass camera — complete with gold paint inlays, diamond-patterned leather trim and a limited run of just 750.

Moving mountains: Land Rover Defender V8 Carpathian Edition
Last week, Land Rover unveiled its new, more powerful Defender V8. But the brand also revealed a couple of special, special editions — including this striking v8 Carpathian Edition. Finished exclusively in Carpathian Grey, it is distinguished by a Narvik Black contrast roof, bonnet and, for the first time on the new Defender, a taildoor. Our favourite touch? Those distinctive Xenon Blue front brake calipers.

Feeling peaky: Huntsman Savile Row Navy Stripe 1919 Wool Cap
Designed in ‘Springfield Stripe’ cloth — an exclusive Huntsman Centenary fabric, designed to celebrate the tailor’s arrival on Savile Row in the year 1919 — this eight-panel, or ‘baker boy’ cap is guaranteed to add a touch of sleek, peaky style to your wardrobe. It’s 100% wool and, if you’re particularly charmed by the style, Huntsman also offer a matching Grenadine Striped Tie.

Surf’s up: Fliteboard Series 2 Electric Hydrofoil
Fliteboard is back! We first featured this Australian start-up when it launched a first generation of iconic electrical hydrofoil surfboards in 2018. This week, the brand has returned with a new design; the Fliteboard Series 2. Able to achieve speeds of up to 34 miles per hour, these ultimate watersport gadgets ‘float’ in the air above the water to limit any resistance — and are available in four new colours.
Taking ciders: Galipette Brut Cidre
Cider’s never been our go-to drink. We’re more into our fine wines — or beer if we’re sipping from a bottle. But Galipette Brut, with its bold, tricolour-inspired label and slightly sparkling fizz, has turned our tastebuds across to the cider side. Made from Brittany cider apples, it’s golden in colour and rich and fruity in taste. An ideal summer staple.

Top flight: SmartFlyer, with Hamilton
With its American spirit and Swiss precision, Hamilton has a long and adventurous history of exploration. This week, while revealing its new novelties — including a particularly pioneering Aviation Auto Chrono — the brand revealed how it has been helping SmartFlyer make hybrid-electric flight a futuristic reality. This sleek, Hamilton-sponsored plane, the prototype SFX1, will begin production in 2023.
Boot it: Tod’s Desert Boots in Suede
Just this week, we were extolling the many crepe-soled, suede-uppered virtues of the humble desert boot. How fortuitous, then, that Italian fashionistas Tod’s would step stylishly onto the scene with this new brown desert boot design. Stripped-back and pared-down, these flat-soled shoes are perfect for springtime dressing — and even feature the brand’s iconic rubber pebble detailing on the heel.

Tight as a dram: The Macallan ‘An Estate, A Community, and A Distillery’ Whisky
Sir Peter Blake has been partnering with whiskymaker The Macallan for decades. But this new collaged collaboration (Blake, as you may know, is a master of the form — having created The Beatles’ iconic ‘Sgt. Pepper’ album art) is perhaps the best limited edition yet. Speaking of the pepper, the whisky behind Blake’s latest label sings with harmonious notes of the spicy stuff — along with rich treacle. A limited edition treat.
