Style Icon: How to dress like Marlon Brando
Words: India Gladstone
There’s something about the actors of the past that the actors of today just don’t have. A certain old-school, unaffected charm: one that automatically made them some of the most stylish, inspirational and interesting gentlemen of their time. Look at Steve McQueen, Cary Grant and Paul Newman. Up there with Brando, these are the gentleman who, although born into the world long before any of us, are still a constant source of inspiration. These men are icons. No one carries themselves in the same way today and dresses with the same sense of ease and confidence – without a hint of arrogance – as these guys.

Marlon Brando was unique. There is something about him – even still today – that completely separates him from the crowd. He was the spokesmen for those tired of convention and the norm; he represented a new lease of life for so many, becoming an instant and lasting legend. How many actors in the current climate can you honestly see having the same reputation as the Brandos and McQueens of the world, decades after their death? How many will serve as the same constant source of inspiration for generations to come? And when it came to style, Brando nailed casual cool every single time. Whether that was him wearing a white t shirt and trainers, a leather or bomber jacket or a smarter shirt and jeans, Brando rocked it. And while the clothes he wore were undoubtedly achingly stylish, it wasn’t just the physical clothes that made him an icon, but the way he wore them.
