Charles Finch, owner of legendary beach and mountain wear brand Chucs, has spent his life growing up in the South of France and Jamaica. Jealous, us? Well, even if we were, he gave a lucky few the chance to buy into his enviable lifestyle – and do some good at the same time – on the fourth of July. Named after Finch’s school nickname, the brand put on a spectacular summer at the Serpentine Lido and le tout London turned up to feast on gourmet hotdogs and sip champagne. In partnership with J P Morgan, the event raised money for ocean wildlife charity Save the Manatees and saw the likes of Barnaby Thompson, producer of hit movie St.Trinian’s, and Made in Chelsea’s Francis Boulle decamp on the banks of Hyde Park’s stunning Serpentine River. Laura Bailey wafted around elegantly in ethereal green, while Mariella Frostrup captivated everyone with her marvelously gravelly voice as Leo Wyndham set hearts a-flutter in front of a setting sun.
After all, as Charles Finch remarked, “A man’s finest hour is often not in the office or the boardroom, but on the sports field, in the hills and at sea!” Add to this one of London’s most picturesque parks and you’ve summed up the evening.
