This weekend, British Polo Day Morocco celebrated its first event on African soil. Guests including Sir Richard Branson, his mother Eve, Philip Treacy, British Ambassador to Morocco Clive Alderton, US Ambassador to Morocco Dwight L. Bush Sr. Alongside a handful of Virgin Galactic astronauts, all gathered at the Jnan Amar Polo Club for a day of top polo, followed by a fantastic Gala Dinner which trumped current British Polo Day philanthropy records, raising over US$175,000 for The Eve Branson Foundation.
Commenting on British Polo Day Morocco, British Ambassador to Morocco Clive Alderton said: “Today has been a fantastic celebration of everything British. How fitting that the inaugural British Polo Day Morocco started with players in fezes aboard Brompton bicycles, is supported by some of Britain’s top luxury brands, and saw some of Great Britain’s top polo players join those from across the world in a day of hugely-enjoyable polo.”
Travelling with Abercrombie & Kent, British Polo Day Morocco’s guests not only enjoyed the day itself but an exclusive four-day itinerary taking in some of Marrakech’s most spectacular landmarks. Highlights included: a private preview of Royal Mansour’s new Yahya & Qotbi exhibition, an Atlas Mountains Land Rover Experience – in which guests navigated themselves through the mountains to Eve Branson’s project villages – and the official British Polo Day Morocco medina launch party on the atmospheric rooftop of Riad El Fenn.
As if that wasn’t enough, Sir Richard then personally hosted a philanthropists lunch for all winners from the previous night’s Charity Auction, including three lucky guests who took to the court in a doubles tennis match with Sir Richard himself at Kasbah Tamadot.
