David Beckham scores a new job as Boss designer
David Beckham will design collections alongside the in house team for the German giant
Words: Zak Maoui
David Beckham is spinning plates. The former football player owns a whisky brand, The Haig Club. He's got an eyewear label. He's the co-owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City. He, as seen in Netflix documentary Beckham, is an avid bee keeper, making his own honey in his spare time. And now he's added designer to his CV.
In an unprecedented move, he has announce that he has signed a multi-million pound deal with Boss, the German brand known best for its suiting and glittering past of dressing some of the world's most famous names, Beckham among them. The collaboration will see Beckham, who next year celebrates his 50th birthday, design and curate capsule and seasonal collections, spanning both formal and casual menswear. The first collection is set to debut in Spring/Summer 2025, while Beckham will star in the brand’s global campaign for Fall/Winter 2024 later this year.
"Over the last few years, I’ve been wanting to invest more time in design and fashion, but wanted to ensure I collaborated with a brand and team that could deliver something truly global and impactful," Beckham said of his latest appointment. "I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with Boss so far and have been impressed by the team’s ambition, creativity, and desire for excellence. I look forward to sharing what we’ve been working on so far."
It makes total sense. Beckham, as well as being a star of the Beautiful Game, is deemed one of the best-dressed men on the planet. His style is aspirational for guys all over the planet, and Boss has tapped into that allure. When celebrities come and go, with their star power fading, Beckham's has continue to shine, and Boss wants to tap into that. Beckham is also just the latest celebrity that Boss has enlisted to help grow its brand. The likes of Kendall Jenner, Future and Naomi Campbell, who designed her own collection for the brand this year, are just some of the big names attached to Boss.
While no images have yet been released regarding the collections Beckham will design, you can be that they will be classic in design, in keeping with the British polymath's own aesthetic.
“David Beckham is a true global icon in both sports and fashion," says Daniel Grieder, CEO of Hugo Boss, the parent company of Boss. "With his distinctive entrepreneurial spirit and authentic passion for fashion, he perfectly embodies the values of our Boss brand. We are very much looking forward to seeing the first collections come to life and working closely with David throughout this multi-year partnership."
