Creel: leather wallets with a twist
Words: Patrick
A wallet says a lot about a man – his tastes, style and characteristics. And rightly so. As something that is an extension of every gentleman – an as familiar everyday weight as shoes and trousers – it should be an accessory that we take pride in. You wouldn’t walk to work in ripped suit trousers, so why would you have a wallet that is well passed its sell-by date, crinkled beyond all recognition?
There are some fine examples available, both stylish and practical, which will stand the test of time. Once such name is Creel, who produce expertly hand-crafted leather goods in classic British designs using the finest leathers and other natural materials… all with a twist.
Run by Jonathan Gurney, who in 2010 swapped the rat race of Central London for a design studio-workshop at the confluence of five rivers in the cathedral city of Salisbury, Creel has an astute philosophy: no compromise. Every aspect of every product in their collection is hand-picked, hand-drawn and handmade, utilising full-grain calf leather, ocean leathers and luxurious shot silks.
The vibrant colourway variations are what give the wallets their unique twist, adding a touch of personal taste to each one. Form follows function is a design principle followed by Creel and a hallmark of the best classic British designs.
